Tennessee Highway Patrol Names Captain over Research, Planning and Development Division

NASHVILLE – Today, March 20, the Department of Safety and Homeland Security Commissioner David W. Purkey and Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) Colonel Tracy Trott announced the promotion of Lieutenant Doug Taylor to Captain of the THP’s Research, Planning and Development Division (RPD). 

Prior to being promoted, Taylor was Lieutenant of the RPD Division.  Captain Taylor is a 20-year veteran of the THP.  Before joining the RPD Division, Taylor worked as a Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer at the Interstate Inspection Station in Robertson County.  He served a year in the Colonel’s office before joining the RPD staff and was promoted to Sergeant in 2006. 

“Doug has prepared himself for the next stage of leadership with the THP,” Colonel Tracy Trott said.  “I feel confident in his ability to oversee one of our strongest divisions, and continue to grow the program into a national leader in statistical data.”

Commissioned as a Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer in 1996, Taylor first worked the road in Robertson and Davidson counties.  He received his Bachelor’s degree in Speech Communication from the University of Tennessee and is a graduate of the Northwestern School of Police Staff and Command.  Taylor is currently enrolled in the Masters of Professional Studies in the Public Safety Program at Tennessee Technological University.
