    NASHVILLE --- On May 20, Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security Commissioner Jeff Long and Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) Colonel Matt Perry welcomed the newest graduating classes of Tennessee State Troopers. The department simultaneously instructed a regular 16-week trooper cadet class and a 10-week lateral trooper cadet class. The lateral class returned from their district assignments for the graduation ceremony that took place at the Hermitage Hills Baptist Church in Nashville.

    TENNESSEE – Beginning May 3, 2023, all persons must have a REAL ID license to access certain federal facilities, military bases and board commercial flights within the United States. The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security (TDOSHS) began issuing REAL IDs on July 1, 2019, and has issued more than 2 million REAL ID credentials to date.

    KNOXVILLE--- Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security Commissioner Jeff Long and Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) Colonel Matt Perry announced the opening of a new THP Knoxville district headquarters, located at 1755 Neals Commerce Lane, Knoxville, Tennessee 37914. The previous THP Knoxville district headquarters on Kingston Pike opened in 1966 and closed in 2022 after serving the Knoxville community for 56 years. As the role of state troopers and their service to their community evolved, the previous headquarters on Kingston Pike did not provide the capacity nor the efficiency required to ensure THP served the community to the highest standards.

    MEMPHIS – On March 31, the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) Memphis district received a be on the look-out (BOLO) for a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado. Troopers spotted the pickup and initiated a traffic stop. However, the driver, identified as Marlon McCrory, 49 years-old of Clarksdale, Mississippi fled from troopers and led them on a pursuit.

    MARYVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security announces the Maryville Driver Services Center, located at 318 Home Avenue, Maryville, Tennessee, 37801, will permanently close at 5:00 p.m. March 23. A new Driver Services Center located at 244 South Calderwood Road in Alcoa, Tennessee will open on March 28. Normal business hours are Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

    MEMPHIS – The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) is accepting applications for the first Citizens’ Academy Classes in Memphis. This first class will meet on May 10th at The Greater Imani Church; sessions will run from 6:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Additional May classes will meet on the 10th, 17th and 24th. Classes will resume June 7th, and will meet again on the 14th, 21th and 28th.

    NASHVILLE --- Beginning February 7, 2022, new federal regulations go into effect to improve highway safety by ensuring that entry-level commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers complete training required by the new entry-level driver training (ELDT) regulations. Effective February 7, entry-level CMV drivers won't be eligible to take their commercial driver license (CDL) test until successfully completing a specific program of theory and behind-the-wheel instruction provided by a school or other entity listed on Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) new Training Provider Registry (TPR).

    NASHVILLE –The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) will conduct a strict traffic safety enforcement campaign during the 2021 New Year’s Eve holiday period beginning Friday, December 31, at 6:00 p.m. and concluding Sunday, January 2, at 11:59 p.m. State troopers will perform traffic saturation patrols, seat belt, sobriety, and driver’s license checkpoints during the holiday.
