NASHVILLE, TN— The Office of Inspector General (OIG) has announced the conviction of 33-year-old Elizabeth Rettig of South Carolina.

Rettig, a former resident of Fentress County, Tennessee, was convicted of one count of TennCare Fraud, one count of Identity Theft, and one count of Theft of Services for using another woman's identity to receive benefits for herself and her son.

Ms. Rettig was sentenced to three years of Tennessee Department of Correction custody and was ordered to pay a $250 fine and $2,064.25 in restitution.

Fentress County District Attorney General Jared Effler prosecuted Ms. Elrod's case with the assistance of Assistant District Attorney Phillip A. Kazen.

“As discovered in this investigation, the crime of identity theft can impact numerous facets of our daily lives, including the unauthorized use of TennCare benefits”, said Inspector General Chad D. Holman.  “Ms. Rettig’s activities not only victimized the TennCare program, but they also victimized the person whose identity she used to obtain the benefits.”
