Rocky Hill

Rocky Hill State Natural Area is a one-acre designated State Natural area located in north-central Rutherford County. The natural area is located along and named after Rocky Hill Road. Rocky Hill State Natural Area is in the Central Basin physiographic province of Middle Tennessee. The site is typical of the region and contains a large limestone outcropping surrounded by young eastern red cedar. Rocky Hill was acquired in 2020 and was officially designated a State Natural Area in 2025. The site was acquired to protect the state-endangered and globally rare running glade clover (Trifolium calcaricum). Running glade clover is listed as critically imperiled globally and is only known to occur on limestone glades in Middle Tennessee and southwest Virginia. The population of running glade clover at Rocky Hill SNA was used in the initial description of the species and is one of only two protected populations of the species within Tennessee.

Directions

From U.S. 231 head east on Patterson Hill Road for approximately 0.7 miles. Turn right onto Rocky Hill Road and continue for 0.5 miles to the natural area. The natural area is located west of Rocky Hill Road. There is no parking available at the natural area.
