State Emergency Response Commission

The State Emergency Response Commission supports hazardous materials planning and helps Tennessee meet requirements under the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act.

The Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act supports the collection and availability of information about the use, storage, production, and release of hazardous chemicals. This information helps improve hazard communication and emergency planning among government, businesses, community partners, emergency responders, and the public. 

Commission Responsibilities

The State Emergency Response Commission helps support hazardous materials preparedness across Tennessee. This includes coordination related to chemical emergency planning, Tier II reporting, public access to certain chemical information, and support for Local Emergency Planning Committees.

The commission helps strengthen communication among state and local government, businesses, emergency responders, community partners, and the public.

Local Emergency Planning Committees

Local Emergency Planning Committees support hazardous materials planning, community right-to-know information, and coordination related to hazardous chemicals at the local level.

Request Tier II Chemical Information

Members of the public may request available Tier II chemical information for a specific facility through the State Emergency Response Commission.

Requests must be submitted in writing and include the specific facility name and address. Only the most current year is available to the public, and there is a 45-day response window for requests under federal statute.
