Fast Facts: Creating Homes Initiative

The Creating Homes Initiative (CHI) seeks to assertively and strategically partner with local communities and stakeholders to educate, inform, and expand quality, safe, affordable, and permanent housing opportunities for people with mental illness and co-occurring disorders. Housing opportunities refers to resources that enable people living with mental illness and/or substance use disorders to obtain and maintain safe, quality, and affordable housing; this can include residential beds, housing vouchers, or rental assistance.  Through the work of CHI Regional Housing Facilitators, these efforts help to ensure that people have meaningful pathways to stable and supportive residences that promote recovery, independence, and long‑term well‑being. Since the year 2000, CHI has leveraged more than $1.4 billion toward the creation of more than 37,000 housing opportunities.
