ABOUT
Middle Tennessee Mental Health Institute (MTMHI) is a psychiatric hospital that serves 18 counties in Middle Tennessee. The hospital opened in Nashville, Tennessee in 1995, replacing the former Central State Hospital founded in 1842. MTMHI offers 4 sub-acute units, 3 acute units, and a Forensic Services Program for a total of 207 psychiatric beds.
The mission of Middle Tennessee Mental Health Institute is to provide quality care to the patients and families served by meeting their needs and continuously striving to exceed expectations.

ADMISSION
Middle Tennessee Mental Health Institute (MTMHI) assists patients who are not typically served by the private service sector and have no other inpatient treatment resources available to them. Most patients have a severe and persistent mental illness and are hospitalized on an emergency involuntary basis. The hospital is an authorized provider under TennCare.
SERVICES
Patients are provided with individualized care that is centered on compassion and quality. Each patient care team consists of a psychiatrist, a social worker, nursing staff, and a treatment team coordinator. Patients also have access to a Recreational Therapist and medical personnel as well. The staff works together with patients to help facilitate the individual’s transition back to the community.
