Nashville, TN – Jonathan Skrmetti was sworn in as Tennessee’s 28th Attorney General this morning at a private ceremony attended by his immediate family.

Nashville– Attorney General Herbert H. Slatery III has reached an agreement in principle with opioid maker Endo International plc and its lenders that would provide up to $450 million to participating states and local governments, ban promotion of Endo’s opioids, and require Endo to turn over millions of documents related to its role in the opioid crisis for publication in a public online archive.

Slatery III today announced that Tennessee is joining a nationwide Anti-Robocall Litigation Task Force of 50 attorneys general to investigate and take legal action against the telecommunications companies responsible for bringing a majority of foreign robocalls into the United States. This bipartisan nationwide Task Force has one goal: to cut down on illegal robocalls.

Nashville – Attorney General Herbert H. Slatery III and a bipartisan group of attorneys general announced an agreement in principle to address the opioid crisis for the second time this week. The proposed settlement on important financial terms would require former opioid maker Allergan to pay up to $2.37 billion to participating states and local governments.

Slatery III has reached an agreement in principle on key financial terms with opioid maker Teva, which would provide up to $4.25 billion to participating states and local governments. While critical details of the settlement remain the subject of ongoing negotiations, Teva disclosed the key financial terms in its earnings announcement Wednesday.

Slatery III announced that Tennessee, along with 45 other attorneys general, has obtained a $1.25 million multistate settlement with Florida-based Carnival Cruise Line after a 2019 data breach that involved the personal information of approximately 180,000 Carnival employees and customers nationwide. Tennessee will receive $19,855.20 from the settlement.

Slatery III announced that Tennessee will receive nearly $5 million dollars in a settlement with Mallinckrodt, which sells and markets pharmaceutical products throughout the nation. The total value of the settlement is approximately $233 million, plus interest, to be paid over a period of seven years. The agreement settles allegations of fraud against Mallinckrodt with all 50 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the federal government.

Nashville- Attorney General Herbert H. Slatery III, along with New York Attorney General Letitia James, announced today they have secured $141 million from the owner of TurboTax, Intuit Inc. (Intuit), for deceiving consumers into paying for tax services that should have been free. All 50 states and the District of Columbia have signed onto the agreement. In Tennessee, approximately 111,000 consumers will be eligible to receive payments of about $30 for each year during tax years 2016-2018 they used a paid TurboTax product when they qualified to file free through the IRS program.

Nashville – The Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance (“TDCI”), the Tennessee Motor Vehicle Commission, the Tennessee Attorney General’s Office, and the Tennessee Department of Revenue are alerting consumers to problems related to the online purchase of vehicles in Tennessee.

Following successful state sign-on and subdivision sign-on periods, the defendants will start releasing funds to a national administrator on April 2, 2022. Money will start flowing to state and local governments in the second quarter of 2022.
