Michael Rojas Guest Speaker

Volunteer Tennessee, whose mission is to promote volunteerism and community service in the State of Tennessee, is partnering with AmeriCorps Disaster Service Unit (DSU) to present this FREE training to prepare you for possible disasters in your community. DSU is the central hub for the agency’s disaster-related activities and ensures that AmeriCorps engagement in this area is appropriate, consistent, and coordinated. Join us as we give tips on emergency preparedness and how you can volunteer in times of need for your community.

Guest Speaker: Michael Rojas joins us as a former AmeriCorps member and leader with the Habitat for Humanity Mobile Response Team. Michael continued working with Habitat for Humanity before joining Volunteer Iowa in December 2020 as a Disaster Programs Officer. Since then, he has worked through multiple local and national disasters. Most recently, the 2022 March Tornados, 2022 Missouri Floods, and Hurricane Ian.

Guest Speaker: Don Sowers is Volunteer Tennessee's Manager of Disaster Volunteer Services. He also acts as a liaison to FEMA when providing administrative support to locally led Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) programs in Tennessee.
