Flash Report #8 Extreme Winter Weather

HIGHLIGHTS 
• The State Emergency Operations Center in Nashville is activated at a Level 4 - Elevated to support local requests. 
• Emergency Service Coordinators (ESCs) from TDOT, TDEC, TDCI, TDH, THP, TN Department of Human Services, and more are monitoring the situation and assisting local jurisdictions as requested.  
• Commercial fuel drivers and commercial livestock and poultry industry drivers have been granted temporary hours of service waiver through Jan. 27.
• Please note this will be the last Extreme Winter Weather Flash Report.  

CURRENT SITUATION 
The extreme cold experienced last week is transitioning out of the state with this week’s forecast including warmer temperatures and rain in all parts of Tennessee expected through Friday. 

The effects of last week’s weather continue to cause damage to drinking water infrastructure across Tennessee. TEMA and TDEC expect that additional systems will experience problems or detect damages as ice and snow thaw with warming temperatures this coming week.

The State of Emergency declarations that TEMA Director Patrick C. Sheehan issued on behalf of Governor Bill Lee that waives commercial hours of service restrictions for vehicles transporting fuel, livestock, poultry, and feed for the livestock and poultry remains in effect until 3:59 p.m. Jan. 27. 

 POWER OUTAGES & UTILITIES
• As of 4:30 p.m. CST on Jan. 23, 20 counties have reported water utilities with operational issues and 30 water systems have issued Boil Water Advisories. If you have lost water or have a loss of water pressure, check with our water system for more information and for recommended actions.

• Dialysis centers that are aware of transportation issues for their patients should contact their county emergency management agency for support.  

FORECAST
Memphis: Cloudy with overnight low temperatures in the lower 50s before midnight, then increasing to the upper 50s before sunrise. Southeasterly winds between 10-20mph, gusting up to 30mph. Rain showers and occasional thunderstorms likely with additional rainfall between 1-2”. Heavy rainfall is possible at times. Daytime high temperatures in the lower 60s.
Nashville: Cloudy with overnight low temperatures in the upper 40s. Southeasterly winds between 10-15mph, gusting up to 20mph. Rain showers and occasional thunderstorms likely with additional rainfall up to 1”. Daytime high temperatures in the lower 60s.
Knoxville: Cloudy with overnight low temperatures in the upper 30s. Northerly winds around 5mph will shift southwesterly during the day. Rain showers likely after late morning. Additional rainfall totals up to 0.25”. Daytime high temperatures in the upper 50s. 
Chattanooga: Cloudy with overnight low temperatures in the upper 40s. Southeasterly winds between 5-10mph, gusting up to 20mph. Rain showers likely with additional rainfall up to 1”. Daytime high temperatures in the upper 50s.
