Nashville, Tenn. – The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) deployed five emergency management professionals to North Carolina today to provide specialized support in the ongoing recovery operation underway in Hurricane Florence’s aftermath.

“When the emergency response is over, the long-term recovery needs of the community emerge,” said Patrick Sheehan, director of the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA).  “This is the time when communities and individuals need assistance navigating the federal disaster process and begin returning to normal.  I’m proud that our public assistance team can help with this specialized process and work with the great team in North Carolina.”

The five-person team from TEMA’s Recovery Division will deploy for 14 days and assist with damage assessments, public assistance briefings and other operational needs in North Carolina.

TEMA is coordinating Tennessee’s Hurricane Florence deployments through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC), the nation’s state-to-state mutual aid system.

Previous State of Tennessee deployments to the Carolinas have included 9-1-1 dispatchers, ambulance strike teams, communications personnel, emergency managers, emergency support coordinators, National Guard units, nurse strike teams, and swift-water rescue personnel.
