Hurricane Season Is Here

And It's Not Just a Coastal Concern

Hurricane season has arrived, and while Tennessee may be far from the coast, that doesn’t mean we’re in the clear. The impacts of hurricanes can stretch hundreds of miles inland, bringing heavy rain, strong winds, and dangerous flooding to our communities.

Now is the time to get prepared — before a storm is on the way. Here are some key steps you can take:

  • Discuss your emergency plan with your household.
  • Have enough supplies for your household.  Include medication, pet supplies, and any other items your family may need in your go bag or car trunk.
  • If you or anyone in your household is an individual with a disability identify if you may need additional help during an emergency.
  • Make sure you have several ways to receive real-time alerts.
  • Review your insurance policies and make sure personal documents (like ID) are up to date.
  • Prepare your business with a continuity plan to continue operating when disaster strikes.

Tennessee is no stranger to severe weather — being prepared could make all the difference. Learn more about how to protect your family, pets, and property on the Ready.gov website.
