What it is

Geologic hazards are hazards caused by ground movement or changes in the Earth’s surface. In Tennessee, these can include landslides, rockfalls, sinkholes, and unstable slopes.

What to do during

  • Move away from the area if you see ground movement, falling rocks, or sudden cracking.
  • Do not enter areas where the ground appears unstable.
  • Avoid driving through areas with mud, debris, or damaged roads.
  • Follow road closures and evacuation instructions.
  • Call 911 if there is an immediate threat to life or safety.
