PROJECT DELIVERY
Transportation projects are developed in four phases: Planning and Environmental, Design, Right-of-Way (ROW), and Construction. The following is a reflection of various aspects of the State Route 1 (US 431) Broadway Viaduct project as they have occurred or will occur.
In an effort to expedite project delivery, TDOT is considering using Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) techniques and completing the project under a Construction Manager/General Contractor (CM/GC) contract.
ABC uses innovative planning, design, materials, and construction techniques in a safe and cost-effective manner to reduce the onsite construction time of building, replacing, or rehabilitating bridges. It often uses precast or hybrid cast-in-place bridge elements.
The CM/GC project delivery method involves a contractor in the design and construction phases of the project. The partnership between TDOT, the Designer, and the Contractor reduces risks and improves constructability.
