Roadway Activity Report for TDOT Region 2 (Dec. 12 - 18, 2019)

DISTRICT 27

CUMBERLAND COUNTY I-40 Construction of a truck climbing lane EB near MM 339, including grading, drainage, and paving: Construction signs, guardrail (westbound), and portable barrier rail (eastbound) have been installed. The contractor has begun grade work in the median behind portable barrier rail. Motorists are encouraged to slow down, use caution, and be aware of construction personnel in the work zone and equipment that will be entering/exiting the roadway. Estimated project completion date is June 2020.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY SR-1 (US-70) Emergency slope stabilization near LM 26.6: Construction signs, portable barrier rail, and temporary traffic signals have been installed. SR-1 (US-70) will be reduced to one lane between Godsey Road and Renegade Mountain Parkway while slope stabilization is in process. Motorists should exercise caution and pay attention to temporary traffic signals as they travel through the work zone.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY SR-101 (Peavine Road) Grading, drainage, and paving from Firetower Road to Westchester/Catoosa Boulevard: As grade work progresses, motorists should be alert for shifts in traffic patterns to allow for construction activities. With the latest traffic shift, existing Peavine Road is now serving as a frontage road to access businesses between Lakeview Drive and Woodgate Circle. The posted speed limit has been reduced from 45 MPH to 35 MPH within the work zone. Temporary lane closures may be needed to support paving and other activities. Motorists should reduce speed on Peavine Road and be alert for construction personnel/equipment entering and exiting the roadway.  Estimated project completion date is November 2020.

DEKALB COUNTY Permitted Work on SR-96 (DALE RIDGE RD.) in both directions from LM 2.0 to LM 2.5: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are performing routine maintenance on Center Hill Dam December 16-19. The dam will be closed daily from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. and a detour route will be posted. Motorists are encouraged to seek alternates routes.

DEKALB AND WARREN COUNTY SR-56 Construction of bridges and paving from south of Warren-DeKalb County (LM 24.5) line to East Bryant St (LM 2.9): The contractor will continue installing concrete box culverts and drainage structures. Grade work and utility work on the new roadway alignment are underway. No change in traffic patterns, traffic is still using the existing SR-56. Motorists are advised to use caution and watch for construction equipment adjacent to roadway. Flaggers may be present while equipment is off-loaded or crossing the roadway.  Estimated project completion date is May 2022.

FENTRESS COUNTY Rotten Fork Road over Rotten Fork of the Wolf River Bridge Replacement: The contractor has completed work on new bridge at Rotten Fork Road at LM 0.135. Rotten Fork Road is open to traffic under the new alignment. Barricades and traffic drums are in place to alert motorists to areas of the previous roadway that are closed. Motorists are advised to use caution and watch for construction equipment adjacent to roadway. Estimated project completion date is December 2019.

FENTRESS COUNTY Vines Ridge Road over Big Laurel Creek Bridge Replacement: Vines Ridge Road is now open to through traffic. The contractor will be on site intermittently performing work on punch list items. Motorists are encouraged to use caution through the work zone. Estimated project completion date is December 2019.

FENTRESS AND OVERTON COUNTY SR-85 Emergency slide repairs at various locations: The roadway is closed from LM 18.4 to LM 22.4 in Overton county. SR-85 in Fentress County is now open to two lanes and all signals and barrier rail has been removed. The contractor will be on site between LM 3.50 and 8.00 intermittently to work as needed. Motorists are encouraged to use caution through the work zone and watch for equipment and personnel in the roadway. Estimated project completion date is January 2020.

OVERTON COUNTY Utility Work on SR-111 (COOKEVILLE HWY.) in both directions from LM 14 to LM 9.8: Signage and flaggers will be present for work along Cookeville Hwy/Bradford Hicks Dr/W Main St and on SR-294 along Bradford Hicks Dr/School Mountain Rd on LM 0.48-0.57. Livingston Police Department will be used as needed for traffic control. Motorists should use caution and be aware of personnel and equipment. 9 AM to 3 PM, from 12/02/19 through 12/19/19.

OVERTON COUNTY SR-111 Miscellaneous safety improvements at the intersections of SR-293 (LM 3.1 and LM 3.2): The contractor currently has SR-111 from the LM 2.25 to the 3.75 reduced to one lane in each direction. This lane closure will remain until approximately 12/18/19. In addition to the lane closure, the speed limit through the work zone has been reduced to 55 MPH for the safety of the motoring public and the contractor's personnel. SR-293 is affected at the intersection of SR-111 with the median crossings being closed for the duration of the project. Motorists are encouraged to obey 55 MPH speed limit and watch for construction operations adjacent to the roadway. RESTRICTIONS: Loads wider than 14' should seek alternate route. Estimated project completion date is December 2019.

OVERTON COUNTY SR-294 Bridge repair over Big Eagle Creek (LM 1.39): The contractor has placed barrier rail and has the roadway reduced to one lane. The roadway will remain reduced to one lane until contract completion scheduled for 06/15/20. During this time, a temporary traffic signal will be in operation to allow traffic to flow through the work zone. Motorists should use caution through the work zone, obey posted speed limit, and be prepared to stop at the traffic signal. RESTRICTIONS: No loads wider than 10 feet. Estimated project completion date is June 2020.

PUTNAM COUNTY Utility Work on I-40 in both directions from MM 0.92 to MM 0.92: THP will assist with a rolling road block and will slow both westbound and eastbound traffic to 15 mph starting eastbound at exit 258 Carthage-Gordonsville and westbound at exit 273 Silver Point with utility trucks with flaggers preventing traffic to enter from the Smith County rest area and from SR-96. Message boards and advance warning signs will be present. 12/11/19, between 8:30 AM and 9:30 AM with rain dates of 12/12/19 and 12/13/19.

DISTRICT 28

BLEDSOE COUNTY SR-28 Slope stabilization in Bledsoe County near LM 28.8: The contractor is working on SR-28 North from mile marker 28.7 to 28.9. The roadway will be reduced to one lane controlled by a traffic signal. Large trucks heading South on SR-28 down the mountain are encouraged to use extreme caution.  Estimated project completion date is April 2020.

COFFEE COUNTY Utility Work on SR-55 (WILSON AVE.) eastbound from LM 1.13 to LM 1.95: Signage and traffic barrels will be present to direct traffic around the construction area at the intersection of Hwy 55/1st Avenue along east side of 1st Avenue traveling from Tullahoma. One lane will remain accessible to through traffic. Motorists are encouraged to use caution and be aware of personnel and equipment. This work will occur between 7 AM and 5 PM from 12/03/19 through 12/11/19.

GRUNDY COUNTY TDOT Contractor on SR-50 in both directions from LM 9.82 to LM 9.82: SR 50 will be reduced to one lane with traffic signals in place for slide repairs. Expected completion date is 12/20/19.

MARION COUNTY SR-2 (US-64, US-72, US-41) Emergency slope stabilization between LM 25.20 and LM 26.40:   The contractor will continue to maintain one lane of travel open to traffic with the restrictions of all wide loads. At this time, traffic signals are installed and will remain in place until the project is complete. Motorists are encouraged to use caution and be alert to construction personnel and equipment. RESTRICTIONS: Restriction of all wide loads will remain in place until project is complete.

WARREN COUNTY SR-288 Construction of a concrete bulb-tee beam bridge over Collins River (LM 4.97), including grading, drainage and paving: The bridge is currently reduced to one 10.5-foot lane to allow the contractor to construct the new bridge. While the bridge is down to one lane, traffic will be maintained and controlled by a temporary signal. Motorists should expect periodic delays and use caution when traveling through the work zone. RESTRICTIONS: 10.5 foot lane. Estimated project completion date is December 2019.

DISTRICT 29

HAMILTON COUNTY I-75 at I-24 Interchange Reconstruction: Phase 1 traffic shifts have been implemented. Traffic should expect multiple lane shifts traveling through the interchange. Lane closures will occur Sunday nights through Thursdays night between 9 PM and 6 AM at the following locations: I-75 NB at state line, I-75 NB MM 2, I-75 SB MM 3, I-24 EB MM 185, I-24 WB 185. Traffic pacing will also occur for I-75 NB, I-75 SB, and I-24 EB. Additionally, shoulders may be closed at various locations between 9 AM and 3 PM for access to the median and roadside areas. The speed limit has been reduced to 45 MPH throughout the interchange. On Spring Creek Road beginning on 12/15/19 through 12/19/19 there will be nighttime flagging operations.

HAMILTON COUNTY US-27 (I-124) Widening from I-24/US-27 interchange to north of the Olgiati Bridge over the Tennessee River, including widening the Olgiati Bridge: Work on this project continues with activities occurring on the west side of southbound US-27. Motorists should be alert for construction vehicles entering and exiting the area along the access ramps for eastbound and westbound M. L. King Boulevard. The speed limit for the access ramp is 35 MPH. In addition, the southbound ramp from W. Main St.to southbound US-27 has been temporarily closed and will remain so until further notice. Detours are posted. Motorists should pay close attention to the detour signage posted. The speed limit on US-27 in the construction zone remains 45 MPH. Weather permitting; the contractor may implement temporary lane/shoulder closures on weeknights between the hours of 7 PM and 6 AM. At least one lane will remain open in each direction on US-27. On Monday 12/16/19, Tuesday 12/17/19 & Wednesday 12/18/19) from 7AM to 5PM, temporary right Lane closures will be in place for northbound and southbound US-27 across the Olgiati Bridge, for removing barrier rail. The temporary lane closure will be set out from 7AM to 3PM on the northbound side and from 9AM to 5PM on the southbound side. No ramps will be closed during this operation. RESTRICTIONS: I-124 (US-27)Northbound Exit 1C 4th St Off Ramp: No oversize/over dimensional loads; I-124 (US-27)Southbound Exit 1C 4th St Of Ramp: On oversize/over dimensional loads; I-124 (US-27) Southbound Exit 1A-B Martin Luther King Blvd. Off Ramp: No oversized/over dimensional loads; I-124 (US-27) Southbound On Ramps from Martin Luther King Blvd.: No oversized/over dimensional loads.

HAMILTON COUNTY TDOT Bridge Inspection on SR-29 (US-27) in both directions from LM 6.7 to LM 12.4: Region 2 bridge maintenance will be crack sealing the bridge decks on the bridges on SR-29 from LM 6.7 through LM 12.4. The work will take place on Thursday, 12/12/19 and continue Monday-Thursday, 12/16/19-12/19/19 from 9 AM until 3 PM. One lane will be closed with traffic control in place.

HAMILTON COUNTY Utility Work on SR-17 (BONNY OAKS DR.) eastbound from LM 8.67 to LM 8.49: A single lane closure will occur at Chickamauga Ave eastbound between the 4200-4300 block of Bonny Oaks Drive. Flaggers will be present as utility crews will need to cross over Bonny Oaks Drive which will stop SB and NB traffic briefly. Motorists should use caution through the area and be aware of personnel and equipment. 9 AM to 2 PM beginning 12/12/19 through 12/18/19.

HAMILTON COUNTY Utility Work on SR-2 (BRAINERD RD.) in both directions from LM 13.8 to LM 15.3: Arrow boards, signage and flaggers will be present on Brainerd Rd at the Eastgate Loop intersection (Krispy Kreme) for utility work. Both eastbound and westbound lanes will be affected. 9 AM to 2 PM from 12/16/19 through 12/17/19.

HAMILTON COUNTY Utility Work on SR-317 (BONNY OAKS DR.) in both directions from LM 1.18 to LM 1.18: Bonny Oaks will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Jersey Pike and Redland Drive. Arrow boards, barrels and signage will be present. Motorists should use caution through the area and be aware of personnel and equipment. Motorists should seek an alternate route if possible. 7 AM to 5 PM from 12/14/19 through 12/15/19 and 10 PM to 5 AM from 12/16/19 through 12/19/19.

HAMILTON COUNTY Utility Work on SR-319 (HIXSON PK.) northbound from LM 7.46 to LM 7.46: A single lane closure of the northbound lane will occur between Big Ridge Road and Cassandra Smith Road. Signage and cones will be present. Motorists should use caution through the area, be aware of personnel and equipment. From 9 AM to 2 PM on 12/17/19.

HAMILTON COUNTY Utility Work on SR-320 (E. BRAINERD RD.) in both directions from LM 1.97 to LM 2.82: Mobile lane closures along East Brainerd Road will occur as crews transition the work zone between North Concord Lane and North Joiner Lane. Signage and flaggers will be present. Motorists should use caution. 10 PM - 6 AM, from 12/16/19 through 12/19/19.

HAMILTON COUNTY SR-153 Resurfacing from north of Shallowford Road (LM 2.6) to north of SR-58 (LM 4.8), including bridge deck repair: There will be lane closures on Thursday night 12/12/2019 (8:30 PM -12:00 AM) on SB SR153 to support addressing punch list items. Estimated project completion date is December 2019.

MCMINN COUNTY SR-30, Grading, drainage and paving on SR-30 from Jackson Street to east of Knight Road in Athens: Traffic along SR-30 is in its phase two configuration with all traffic on the former eastbound side, providing one lane in each direction plus turning lanes at critical intersections and businesses. Estimated project completion date is June 2020.

MEIGS COUNTY SR-58 Repair of bridge over Hiwassee River (LM 5.22): During this report period, the contractor will have the roadway reduced to one lane controlled by temporary traffic signals. Additional flaggers will be on site as needed.

POLK COUNTY SR-40 (US-64) Repair of bridges over North Potato Creek (LM 26.93): During this reporting period, the contractor will be working on the phase 2 removal of the eastbound bridge deck. Repair work will continue on the westbound bridge deck. Traffic on US-64 is reduced to one lane in each direction for the duration of this work. Motorists are advised to reduce speed in the work zone due to reduced lane widths. RESTRICTIONS: No loads wider than 12 ft. are allowed at LM 26.93 westbound. Estimated project completion date is April 2020.

RHEA COUNTY TDOT Slope Stabilization on SR-68 (WASSOM MEMORIAL HIGHWAY) in both directions at LM 5.5: The roadway is reduced to one lane and signalized 24/7 due to a roadway settlement. The slope repair contractor has begun work on permanent repairs.

RHEA COUNTY SR-29 (US-27) resurfacing from north of SR-60 (4.9) to Landes Way (6.5) including bridge repair: There could be lane and shoulder closures to support the contractor while addressing punch list items during this reporting cycle.  Estimated project completion date is December 2019.

RHEA COUNTY SR-30 Grading, drainage and paving from west of New Union Road/White Oak Road (LM 12.6) to Sky Drive (LM 12.9): During this report period, the contractor will be performing grading and drainage operations along SR-30 and New Union Road. During the initial phase, traffic will be maintained on SR-30, White Oak Drive, and New Union Road in its current pattern. Flaggers will be on-site to assist with heavy equipment entering and exiting existing roadways.

RHEA COUNTY Miscellaneous safety improvements on various local roads: During this report period, the contractor will be performing miscellaneous safety improvements on the following local routes in Rhea county: Local Route 02294 (Toestring ValleyRoad/Euchee Chapel Road) from Rocky Springs Road (L.M. 0.00) to Cedine Camp Road (L.M. 3.08), Local Route 0A307 (Wolf Creek Road) from TN-68/Watts Bar Highway (L.M. 0.00) to Pin Hook Road (L.M. 2.68), Local Route 01162 (Rocky Springs Road) from Toestring Valley Road (L.M. 7.71) to US-27 (L.M. 10.87), Local Route 02180 (Shut In Gap Road) from Bledsoe-Rhea County Line (L.M. 0.00) to TN-68/Wassom Memorial Highway (L.M. 7.24). Flaggers will be on-site to assist with traffic control as needed. Estimated project completion date is July 2020.

REGION 2 TDOT Maintenance drainage work: There will be possible short-term lane and shoulder closures at various locations in Region 2 in order to clean rock and debris from ditches on an as-needed basis. One lane will be maintained at all times.

REGION 2 TDOT Maintenance pothole repair and pavement patching: There will be possible short-term emergency lane closures at various locations in Region 2 in order to repair potholes and patch pavement on an as-needed basis. Depending on location and severity these repairs may be done during the day or at night. In addition to performing the work, regional Operations crews will also provide traffic control.

REGION 2 Preventative and unscheduled maintenance of Chattanooga SmartWay Intelligent Transportation System: The contractor may have short term shoulder and/or lane closures in order to perform preventative or unscheduled maintenance to the local SmartWay Intelligent Transportation System. Work hours are 9 AM to 3:30 PM. At least one travel lane will remain open to traffic at all times. Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed. Estimated project completion date is February 2020.

REGION 2 On-call guardrail repair and new guardrail installation on various Interstate and State Routes: The contractor may have short term shoulder and/or lane closures in order to perform guardrail repair. These closures will take place on the interstate nightly from 7 PM to 6 AM Sundays through Thursdays and daily on state routes. At least one travel lane will remain open to traffic at all times on the interstate, and flaggers will be present on state routes during any work that is performed.  Estimated project completion date is June 2020.

REGION 2 On-call cable barrier repair on various interstate and state routes: The contractor may have short term shoulder closures in order to perform cable rail repair. Both travel lanes will remain open to traffic at all times on the interstate during any work that is performed. Estimated project completion date is December 2019.

REGION 2 On-call signing on various interstate and state routes: Beginning Monday 12/16/19 the contractor will be installing footings for signs at various locations in Putnam, McMinn, Grundy, Marion, Bradley, and Meigs Counties. This work will be done with shoulder closures and will not impact traffic. Advanced warning signs and a truck mounted attenuator with message board will be on site. Estimated project completion date is June 2020.

REGION 2 Sweeping and drain cleaning on various interstate and state routes: There will be a sweeping activity (Sunday through Thursday, 8 PM to 6 AM) on regional interstates and selected state routes. This will be supported by a mobile lane closure operation.  Estimated project completion date is February 2020.

REGION 2 Crack sealing at various locations on various State Routes: The contractor will continue the crack sealing process on various state routes in the following Counties: Bledsoe, Franklin, Grundy, Hamilton, Polk, Sequatchie, Van Buren, and Warren. The contractor will be working 7 days a week from 6 AM to 7 PM. The progress work will be supported by a mobile lane closure operation as crews transition the work zones along state routes for sealant work. Signage and flaggers will be present during this work. Motorists are encouraged to use caution and be alert to construction personnel and equipment. During this reporting period the plan of operation will be: Grundy County SR-56, LM 14.1 to LM 25.8 and Warren County SR-1, LM 0 to LM 9.2 - upon completion of Grundy County and Warren County, work will begin in Van Buren County on SR-111, LM 0.0 to LM 12.5. Estimated project completion date is December 2019.
