CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. –Tennessee Department of Transportation crews have closed State Route 85 in Fentress County between log miles 2 and 8 due to a pavement failure at log mile 6.8.  Part of the outside lane has failed and settlement continues in both lanes.  Runoff from recent rains is still occurring in the area and may be contributing to the additional settlement.

TDOT geotechnical engineers have been called in to provide support and assistance to Region 2 personnel.  The closure is expected to last several days and at this time we do not have an estimated reopening date for repairs to be completed.  Traffic control measures have been installed, and local emergency responders and schools are being notified of the closure.

As always, drivers are reminded to use all motorist information tools wisely and Know Before You Go! by checking travel conditions before leaving for your destination. Drivers should never tweet, text or talk on a cell phone while behind the wheel.

In 2016, the Tennessee Department of Transportation lost three workers in the line of duty. All three were struck by passing motorists. Those tragedies bring the total number of TDOT lives lost to 112. We don’t want to lose another member of our TDOT family. We’re asking you to WORK WITH US.
