CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. –Tennessee Department of Transportation Commissioner John Schroer joined state and local officials in Clarksville today to break ground on a project to widen State Route 13 and State Route 149.

The 3-mile, $65 million project will widen the roadway to five lanes on SR 149 from River Road to SR 13, and SR 13 from SR 149 to Zinc Plant Road. The project includes a new four-lane bridge over the Cumberland River to replace the two-lane McClure bridge.

“This project will not only address congestion and the urgent need for a new bridge over the river, but it will also tie into the future State Route 374 extension to provide an alternate route for the region’s drivers and industry,” TDOT Commissioner John Schroer said.

The improvements for State Route 149 and State Route 13 are part of a larger effort to provide a circumferential bypass around Clarksville in Montgomery County by way of State Route 374. TDOT is currently in the development process for a new portion of State Route 374 that will run from US 79 to SR 149.

The State Route 13 and State Route 149 widening project is scheduled to be completed in May 2021.

In 2016, the Tennessee Department of Transportation lost three workers in the line of duty. All three were struck by passing motorists. Those tragedies bring the total number of TDOT lives lost to 112. We don’t want to lose another member of our TDOT family. We’re asking you to WORK WITH US.
