Statewide Planning and Research Work Program

The Statewide Planning and Research Work Program (SPRWP) Part A is one of TDOT's most important tools for shaping Tennessee's transportation future.  It outlines planning, research, and technology activities that guide how we maintain, improve, and expand our state's transportation system.

Purpose of the SPR Work Program
Every two years, TDOT develops the SPR Work Program to:
Set priorities and outline activities for the next two years.
Meet federal and state requirements for transportation planning and research.
The program is reviewed and approved by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) to ensure it meets national standards and supports Tennessee's long-term transportation goals.

Part A Program Structure
Focuses on statewide and regional transportation planning efforts.
Organized into task areas that include specific projects, staff activities, timelines, and budgets.
Supports initiatives such as various transportation-related analyses and studies, data collection, forecasting, community and stakeholder engagement, and transportation planning.
