In the 2023 legislative session, the General Assembly passed legislation that makes minor changes to the standard license plate. The changes remove the words www.tnvacation.com from both the standard and In God We Trust license plates.  For the In God We Trust plate option, the words "In God We Trust" will be located where www.tnvacation.com currently appears.

With this change, the clerks are required to ask each customer if they prefer the In God We Trust plate or the plate without the In God We Trust language. If the customer does not indicate a preference, the customer should be issued the In God We Trust plate. The new design will be available beginning January 1, 2024, OR upon depletion of the county’s inventory of the current blue plate. The new design will be for new registration only, not renewals.

If an owner or lessee currently has the In God We Trust plate and they wish to change to the plate without the In God We Trust language, they may do so. If an owner or lessee currently has a plate without the In God We Trust language and they wish to change to the In God We Trust plate, they may do so. In either case, the customer should pay the license plate class change fee. Customers may also request a new placement plates if their current plate has been lost, stolen, destroyed, mutilated, or so damaged as to be illegible. An owner or lessee is not eligible to receive the new design unless they are changing the type of plate as described above.

Public Chapter 250 limits the issuance of the newly design plate to those meeting the above criteria and is linked here for reference.
