HUNTSVILLE, Tenn. - In an effort to enhance its outreach to rural Tennesseans, the Department of Revenue will host a free tax preparation workshop for business owners at the Scott County Clerk’s Office on Monday, March 25, from 8 am to noon, Eastern time.

The workshop is part of a series of tax education workshops the Department will hold across the state to help rural Tennessee business owners with filing their state taxes. Details of the Scott County workshop are below:

WHAT:  Tax Preparation Workshop for Business Owners

WHEN: Monday, March 25, from 8 a.m. to noon, Eastern time at the Scott County Office Building, 2845 Baker Highway, Huntsville, TN 37756

WHY:  To help business owners with questions as they prepare filing their Tennessee taxes

“We’re happy to partner with the Scott County Clerk’s office to provide this important service,” Revenue Commissioner David Gerregano said. “We look forward to answering questions and providing assistance to business owners.”

Earlier this month, the Department also held free tax workshops in Dyer County on March 12 and in McNairy County on March 14.

“We’re committed to providing tax assistance to all Tennesseans, especially those in rural counties who may not live close to one of our offices across the state,” Commissioner Gerregano said.

The Department of Revenue is responsible for the administration of state tax laws and motor vehicle title and registration laws, as well as the collection of taxes and fees associated with those laws. The Department collects about 87 percent of total state revenue. During the 2018 fiscal year, it collected $14.5 billion in state taxes and fees and more than $2.8 billion in taxes and fees for local governments.
