The Special Investigations Section of the Tennessee Department of Revenue conducted the investigation that led to Carlos Flores Ramirez, owner of Carmen’s Taqueria, pleading guilty Thursday. Judge Barry Tidwell accepted Ramirez’ guilty plea to five counts of tax fraud and placed him on six years’ supervised probation. He also ordered Ramirez to pay $304,745.77 in restitution.
The Special Investigations Section of the Tennessee Department of Revenue conducted the investigation that led to Adam Wade Kelley pleading guilty Monday to theft. Kelley, 45, was sentenced to eight years supervised probation.

The Tennessee General Assembly approved two additional one-time holidays this year, in addition to the traditional sales tax holiday that takes place each year at the end of July. During these holiday periods, Tennesseans do not have to pay state or local sales tax on certain items, saving up to 10 percent on some purchases.

The Special Investigations Section of the Tennessee Department of Revenue and the Metro Nashville Police Department conducted the investigation that led to the indictment and arrest of Mohammad Ghaleb Amer for tax evasion, theft, money laundering, and selling counterfeit merchandise. Revenue agents and officers from the Mt. Juliet Police Department arrested Amer, age 48, at his home. Bond was set at $50,000.
OAK RIDGE - The Special Investigations Section of the Tennessee Department of Revenue conducted the investigation that led to the indictment and arrest of John McGuire Packard, manager of McGuire’s Books, Music, Movies, & More. Revenue special agents arrested Packard, age 38, Tuesday, and bond was set at $45,000.
The Special Investigations Section of the Tennessee Department of Revenue conducted the investigation that led James Russell Rice, 77, to plead guilty to tax charges in Knox County Criminal Court Friday. He will be sentenced on July 21, 2022.
NASHVILLE - Under a new state law, the Tennessee General Assembly has waived state registration fees for Class A and Class B motor vehicles, for renewals after July 1, 2022 and before June 30, 2023.
