CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – In support of the 2025 Medal of Honor Celebration Convention, Soldiers from the 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment’s Fires Squadron will perform a three-volley salute next to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, in Chattanooga, during a memorial service on October 3, at approximately 10:20 a.m.

The nearly 20-Soldier team of Tennessee National Guardsmen from Lewisburg, Maryville, Shelbyville, Sparta, and Winchester will discharge ceremonial blank rounds, in series, from three 75mm M116 Howitzers. Each gun will fire independently and there will be a 3-5 second pause between each round discharged. Citizens near St. Paul’s Episcopal Church should expect to hear a loud report during each cannon volley. The howitzers present no danger to the public.

A three-volley salute is performed at military funerals to honor and convey deep respect for deceased service-members.
