Soldiers of Tennessee's 118th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment and 117th Military Police Battalion deployed to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba report that they will shelter in place during Hurricane Matthew.  The hurricane is projected to make landfill near Naval Station Guantanamo Bay (NSGB) on Tuesday, Oct. 4th. Preparations have been completed at NSGB to support the safety and security of its base operations and personnel.  The safety and security of personnel and families are top priority.

Personnel assigned to NSGB reside and work in several different types of structures, each with a different storm rating. Personnel will either shelter in place or move to a designated shelter depending on the storm rating for their assigned housing. Once it is safe to do so, personnel will conduct a damage assessment and begin the process of recovery.

Installation personnel have access to updated information via NSGB/ Navy Region Southeast social media and websites, AFN Radio and Television, and all-hands emails. The installation is posting continuous updates at facebook.com/NSGuantanamoBay/
