State Command Sergeant Major

Command Sergeant Major Michael Gentry was assigned to serve as Tennesseeā€™s State Command Sergeant Major on 1 October 2015. He represents and advises the Assistant Adjutant General-Army on matters pertaining to policies and actions that affect enlisted Soldiers.

Prior to his assignment as the State Command Sergeant Major, Gentry served as the J3/G3 Operations Sergeant Major, the G3 Operations Sergeant Major for 30th Troop Command, Command Sergeant Major for the 168TH MP Battalion, and S3 Operations Sergeant Major for the 168TH MP Battalion.

Command Sergeant Major Gentry is a native of Nashville, TN. He currently resides in Rockvale, Tennessee and has three sons. After CSM Gentry's initial enlistment in the United States Marine Corps, he enlisted in the United States Army Reserve. He then joined the Tennessee Air National Guard Security Police Squadron and later moved to the Tennessee Army National Guard.

Command Sergeant Major Gentry has served two tours in Iraq with the 168TH MP BN and one tour in Macadonia/Kosovo with the 130TH RAOC.

Bliss, TX; the Advanced Noncommissioned Officer Course, Camp Shelby, MS; the Basic Non-Commissioned Officer Course, Ft. McClellan, AL; the Air Force Primary Leadership Training Course; Primary Leadership Development Course, Ft. Benning, GA; Marine NCO Course, Camp Lejeune, NC; Military Police School, Ft. McClellan, AL; Advanced Infantry Training, Camp Geiger, NC; Basic Training, Paris Island, SC.

Command Sergeant MajorGentry earned his Masters Degree in Criminal Justice from Southwestern University; a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from the University of Tennessee; and Associates of ScienceĀ  Degree in Police SciencefromAustin Peay University, He also holds a Paralegal Certification from Southeastern Paralegal Institute and Tennessee Post; Police Certification from the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy.
