The State Command Sergeant Major advises on matters pertaining to policies and actions that affect enlisted Soldiers. 

Command Sergeant Major M. Heath Young enlisted into the Active Army in 1993 and attended Basic Training and AIT at Fort Benning Georgia where he was awarded the primary MOS 11B. CSM Young has held a myriad of leadership positions to include Team Leader, Squad Leader, NCOIC, First Sergeant, Battalion Command Sergeant Major, Enlisted Personnel Management (EPM) SGM and G1 Sergeant Major.

Over his last 27 years of service, CSM Young’s assignments include: 5th BN 14th Inf Regiment, Hawaii; 2nd BN 5th Inf Regiment, Hawaii; 1st BN 187th Inf Regiment “Rakkasans” Fort Campbell; USAREC, TNARNG Recruiting and Retention Battalion where he served as 1SG and Battalion Command Sergeant Major; TNARNG G1-EPM Sergeant Major and G1 Sergeant Major.

His military education includes all levels of the NCOPDS to include the Nominative Leaders Course (NLC). He is a graduate of the U.S Army Sergeant Major Academy (Non Resident 41). His additional military training include Army Recruiter Course, National Guard Recruiting and Retention Course, First Sergeant Course, Airborne School, Air Assault School and Battle Staff.

His military awards and decorations include: Meritorious Service Medal (1 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (3 OLC), Air Force Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (4 OLC), Army Good Conduct Medal (6th Award), National Defense Service Medal with bronze service star, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (Numeral 6), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Multinational Force and Observers (MFO) Medal, Tennessee National Guard Individual Achievement Ribbon, Tennessee National Guard Recruiting Merit Ribbon (Numeral 50), Tennessee National Guard Service Ribbon, Tennessee National Guard Volunteer Ribbon, Army National Guard Strength Maintenance Expert Badge, Army Gold Recruiter Badge, Expert Infantry Badge (EIB), Parachutist Badge and Air Assault Badge.

His deployments/overseas assignments include Multinational Forces and Observers Mission (MFO), Sinai Egypt (1994-1995) and Operation Desert Falcon III, Saudi Arabia (1997-1998).

CSM Young and his wife Lee reside in Springfield, Tennessee and have three daughters, Kinsey, Addy and Ella.
