Colonel Shane Tipton is the 2nd Commander of the 35th Division Sustainment Brigade, headquartered in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Colonel Tipton began his military career in 1993, enlisting as a tanker (19K) in M Company, 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment, in Jamestown, Tennessee. After serving three and a half years as an enlisted Soldier, he was commissioned as an ordnance officer through the Tennessee Military Academy in August 1996. His previous military assignments include Platoon Leader, Detachment Commander, Maintenance Control Officer, Maintenance Company Commander, S4, S1, Assistant S3, Maintenance Officer, Executive Officer (XO) of the Regimental Support Squadron, Commander and Administrative Officer of the Regimental Support Squadron, and Deputy G4 and Deputy Chief of Staff, Logistics (G4) for Joint Force Headquarters-Tennessee (JFHQ-TN).

COL Tipton began his career as a full-time, dual-status technician in June 2001, serving as a maintenance manager. He then progressed to automotive foreman and shop supervisor at the Combined Support Maintenance Shop (CSMS) at Volunteer Training Site-Smyrna. Additionally, he served as the Surface Maintenance Manager (SMM) for the G4 in Nashville, Tennessee. Following his service as the Administrative Officer/Commander of the Regimental Support Squadron, he held positions as the Logistics Management Officer, Resource Manager, Deputy G4, and most recently, the Deputy Chief of Staff, Logistics (G4).

His deployments include Operation Iraqi Freedom (Camp Buehring, Udari, Kuwait) and Operation Noble Eagle (Fort Bragg, North Carolina).

COL Tipton earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Tennessee Technological University and a Master’s degree in Strategic Studies from the United States Army War College. His military education includes completion of the Ordnance Maintenance Officer Basic Course, the Combined Arms Exercise (CAX), Intermediate Level Education (ILE) at the Command and General Staff College, the Advanced Operations Course (AOC), and the United States Army War College.

His awards and ribbons include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and Overseas Service Ribbon.
