Chief Warrant Officer Five David L. Ward was appointed Tennessee’s 6th Command Chief Warrant Officer on April 1, 2021. CW5 Ward serves as the principle Warrant Officer advisor to the Adjutant General and the Land Component Commander for the supervision, training and wellbeing of all Tennessee Army National Guard Warrant Officers.

CW5 Ward joined the Army in 1985, serving three years as an Equipment Records and Parts Specialist, and finished his first term of service with the 18^th Airborne Corps at Ft. Benning, Georgia. Upon leaving active duty in 1988, CW5 Ward joined the South Carolina Army National Guard’s 1-263d Armor Regiment in Mullins, S.C. where he served for sixteen years and rose from the rank of Specialist to Chief Warrant Officer Two. He transferred to the Tennessee Army National Guard in 2004 where he served in various command and staff positions to include: Detachment Commander, 730^th QM CO; Senior Maintenance Technician, 176^th Maintenance BN and G4 Maintenance Manager. He has also served at JFHQ as the Senior Maintenance Officer and the Senior Supply Systems Officer. He has managed FMS # 16 in Smyrna, TN; CSMS-East in Knoxville, TN and FMS # 10 in Columbia, TN. In 2007, CW5 Ward deployed with the 730^th Quartermaster Company in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

CW5 Ward’s military schools include the Equipment Records and Parts Specialist Course and the Bradley Fighting Vehicle Systems Technician Course. He is a graduate of the Maintenance Technician Warrant Officer Basic and Advance Courses as well as the Supply Systems Technician Warrant Officer Basic Course, the Warrant Officer Intermediate Level Education and Senior Service Education Courses. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management from Coastal Carolina University.

CW5 Ward’s awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal - 4, Army Achievement Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal - 10, National Defense Service Medal - 2, Iraqi Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with M Device and Gold Hour Glass - 3, Non-Commissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon,  Overseas Service Ribbon, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Drivers Mechanic Badge with Mechanic Clasp, Tennessee National Guard Commendation Ribbon - 2, Tennessee National Guard War Service Ribbon, Tennessee National Guard Service Ribbon - 3, Tennessee National Guard Volunteer Ribbon, and the Mississippi Emergency Service Ribbon. He is member of the Volunteer Chapter, United States Army Warrant Officer Association and served as Chapter President from 2010 to 2012.

CW5 Ward is a native of Tabor City, North Carolina, and currently resides on his farm in Culleoka, Tennessee with his wife of twenty-four years Jennifer.
