Command Chief Warrant Officer

Chief Warrant Officer Five Ricky Tackett was appointed Tennessee’s 5th Command Chief Warrant Officer on April 1, 2017.  CW5 Tackett serves as the principle Warrant Officer advisor to The Adjutant General and Assistant Adjutant General Army for the supervision, training and wellbeing of Tennessee Army National Guard Warrant Officers. Before his appointment, he served as the Detailed Inspector General for the Tennessee Army National Guard.

CW5 Ricky Tackett enlisted in the US Army in 1984 as a Combat Engineer (12B). He was accepted into the Warrant Officer Rotary Wing Aviator Course in 1986 and graduated as a WO1 helicopter pilot in 1987. He was assigned as a UH-1 pilot in the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) and deployed to El Salvador. He deployed in support of Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm in 1991 as a CH-47 Chinook pilot-in-command. He remained on active duty until 1996.

In 2001, CW5 Tackett joined the Tennessee Army National Guard and was assigned as a UH-60 helicopter pilot. He has served as pilot-in-command of OH-58, UH-60, and UH-72 aircraft; company-, squadron-, and brigade-level Safety Officer; and was the Officer in Charge of the Tennessee Reconnaissance and Aerial Interdiction Detachment. In 2013, he qualified as a Tactical Unmanned Aircraft Systems Operations Officer and served with the 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment (Knoxville) until his appointment as Detailed Inspector General for the Tennessee National Guard. During his time in the Tennessee Army National Guard, He deployed as a UH-60 pilot-in-command in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.


CW5 Tackett is a graduate of the Army Rotary Wing Aviator Course and the Tactical Unmanned Aircraft Systems Operations Officer Course. He is a graduate of the Aviation Warrant Officer Advanced Course, as well as the Warrant Officer Staff and Senior Staff Courses. He also completed the Anti-Terrorism Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, the CH-47 and UH-72 Instructor Pilot Courses, Rotary Wing Instrument Flight Examiner Course, Aviation Safety Officer Course, NTSB Accident Investigator Course, US Army Inspector General Course, and numerous other military training courses. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts and a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice.
