About the President James K. Polk Home and Museum

James K. Polk was the 11th President of the United States and one of three U.S. Presidents from Tennessee. Other than the White House, this home is the only surviving residence of Polk. This Federal style brick townhouse was built in 1816, and Polk would stay there following his graduation from the University of North Carolina until his marriage to Sarah Childress. State-owned properties on this site include the Sister’s House and the garden.
