FF165 Aerial Apparatus Familiarization
Overview
Aerial apparatus, when properly utilized, can be one of the most valuable resources on the fireground. It is critically important that the aerial operator be intimately familiar with the aerial device he/she is assigned to operate. Failure to properly understand the capabilities and operation of the aerial device can have devastating consequences.
This course is designed to introduce students to the various aerial apparatus types, components, and basic operating procedures. The class will focus a considerable amount of time reviewing the capabilities and safe operating procedures for the specific aerial apparatus used by the student. Students will learn the critical difference between aerial apparatus manufacturer before and after the year 1991. By the conclusion of the class, students will have a basic understanding of the components and operations related to their specific aerial apparatus.

Course Objectives
- Student will be able to discuss the principles of stabilizing the aerial apparatus.
- Students will be able to discuss the proper utilization of the operating mechanisms found on aerial apparatus.
- Students will be able to demonstrate the proper deployment of an elevated master stream following all manufacturer’s guidelines to produce an effective fire stream.
