Behavioral Health Day on the Hill Coincides with Art for Awareness 2017

NASHVILLE-Wednesday March 8th, 2017, will be an exciting day for mental health agencies, consumers and advocates as they attend a pair of events in Downtown Nashville.

First will be the annual “Behavioral Health Day on the Hill” at War Memorial Auditorium, sponsored by the Tennessee Coalition for Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services. Registration begins at 8:30am, the program begins at 9:30am, and the event concludes at 12:45pm.

Then, in the afternoon, the 12th Annual Art for Awareness 2017 event -- co-sponsored by the TDMHSAS and the Healing Arts Project, Inc. (HAPI) -- gets under way as consumer artists from across Tennessee come together to share their works and their experiences. The event begins at 1 p.m. in the War Memorial Auditorium with registration opening at 8 a.m.

The Art for Awareness 2017 event will showcase a variety of artwork created and submitted by consumers themselves. Since the inception of Art for Awareness, thousands of consumers in recovery from mental illness and substance use disorders have participated in the art-based stigma-reduction program through HAPI-sponsored art classes at peer support centers.

Please join us at these two events in order to raise awareness about behavioral health and to hear a brief message from TDMHSAS Commissioner, Marie Williams and other distinguished guests, as well as the key note address from Peer Wellness Coach, Dina Savvenas.

Members of the media are encouraged to join us at both of these events in an effort to increase awareness, promote recovery and provide a message of hope to those struggling with behavioral health issues.
