Floodplain development requirements are managed locally. Each community that participates in the National Flood Insurance Program has a local floodplain administrator who helps manage development in mapped flood hazard areas.

The local floodplain administrator is often the best first point of contact for property-specific questions about floodplain requirements, permits, elevation certificates, development standards, and whether a property is located in a regulated floodplain.

Use the directory below to find contact information for the floodplain administrator in the community where the property is located. Search for the city, town, or county where the property is located. If the property is inside city limits, contact the city floodplain administrator. If the property is outside city limits, contact the county floodplain administrator.

When to Contact the Floodplain Administrator

Contact the local floodplain administrator before beginning work in or near a mapped floodplain. This may include construction, repairs, substantial improvements, placement of fill, grading, excavation, manufactured homes, accessory structures, or other development activity.

You may also want to contact the floodplain administrator if you have questions about:

• Whether a property is located in a regulated floodplain.
