Two Bridge Replacement Projects to Begin Utility Work in Sumner County

Nashville, Tenn. – The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) will begin utility work next week on the replacement of two bridges on State Route 6 (Nashville Pike)  in Sumner County: the East Fork Station Camp Creek Bridge and the West Fork Station Camp Creek Bridge. This utility work will initiate the first traffic phase of these projects.

Beginning on Sunday, September 27, traffic will be adjusted on the State Route 6/Nashville Pike East and West Fork bridges. On the East Fork Bridge, the center gore (area separating opposing traffic lanes) will be narrowed. On the West Fork Bridge, the two-way center turn lane located over the bridge will close, and the left-turn lane onto Douglas Bend Road will be reduced to approximately 250 feet. All existing travel lanes will remain open on both bridges.

The project is estimated to be complete in winter 2029.

Awarded to Bell & Associates, this project will fully replace both bridges, both originally constructed in 1955. Along with modernization and enhanced safety, the project includes wider shoulders for future multimodal accommodations to enhance mobility for motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists while addressing existing operational and load limitations for the traveling public.

All work is weather-dependent. As always, drivers are reminded to allow additional time, slow down, and move over when traveling through a work zone. The Move Over Law was passed in 2006. The penalty for violating the law in Tennessee includes the possibility of up to 30 days in jail and a maximum fine of $500.
