TRAFFIC ADVISORY – Bridge Work on SR 1 in Smyrna

Thursday, July 20, 2017 | 09:41am

SMYRNA, Tenn. – Tennessee Department of Transportation contract crews will be closing lanes on SR 1 (South Lowry Street) over Harts Branch in Smyrna between SR 266 (Sam Ridley Parkway) and SR 102 (Lee Victory Parkway) this weekend for an Accelerated Bridge Construction project.

The lane closure schedule is as follows.

  • Friday, July 21, 8PM through Monday, July 24, 5AM – SR 1 will be reduced from five lanes to two lanes on the bridge over Harts Branch.

Additionally, Mitchell Avenue will be closed during the weekend work. There will be a signed detour in place directing traffic to use Moore Avenue.

This is an Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) project that will require contract crews to work 24/7 during the weekend lane closures in order to demolish and reconstruct half of the bridge.

The project will take up to three additional weekends to complete. The contractor has tentatively scheduled the weekend of July 28 for the next round of weekend work. Drivers should check message boards for the most up-to-date information regarding the weekend lane closures.

The new bridge will feature new sidewalks, new handrails, and a decorative inlay with the Smyrna town seal.

The $2.2 million project contract was awarded to Superior Construction Company, who had the lowest bid that met project requirements.

In 2016, the Tennessee Department of Transportation lost three workers in the line of duty. All three were struck by passing motorists. Those tragedies bring the total number of TDOT lives lost to 112. We don’t want to lose another member of our TDOT family. We’re asking you to WORK WITH US.
