TDOT Celebrates Completion of APD-40/SR-311 Interchange in Bradley County

Chattanooga, Tenn. – Tennessee Department of Transportation Commissioner John Schroer joined state and local officials on Friday to celebrate the completion of the new interchange project on APD-40/SR-311 in Cleveland, Tenn. and the dedication of the interchange in honor of Cleveland Mayor Tom Rowland.

TDOT contract crews began work on the 1.1-mile construction project in January 2015.  During the project, a new, full-diamond interchange bridge with ramps and auxiliary lanes between I-75 (Exit 20) and SR-2 (U.S. 11) was constructed. The interchange will serve a locally-developed industrial park for potential supplier businesses to serve Volkswagen, Wacker Polysilicon, and other local industries. The contractor for the $22.6 million interchange project is Talley Construction Co., LLC of Rossville, Georgia.  

Connectivity with the local road system is being provided by two Local Interstate Connector projects that are being managed by the City of Cleveland and Bradley County with cost share funding being provided by TDOT. 

“We are very happy to be here today to celebrate the completion of this important interchange project with our state and local partners and the citizens of Cleveland,” said Commissioner Schroer. “The interchange will improve access to the area and support economic development and regional growth projections.”

Additionally, signs were unveiled that name the interchange after Cleveland Mayor Tom Rowland, who has served in this capacity for over 25 years. The legislation to bestow this honor was co-sponsored in the Tennessee General Assembly by Senator Mike Bell (R-Riceville) and Representative Kevin Brooks (R-Cleveland). 

In addition to Senator Bell and Representative Brooks, Senator Todd Gardenhire (R-Chattanooga) and Representative Dan Howell (R-Georgetown) represent Bradley County in the Tennessee General Assembly.
