I-65 over Trinity Lane Bridge Repair Project Continues this Weekend

NASHVILLE – Tennessee Department of Transportation contract crews will continue work this weekend on a project to repair the Interstate 65 bridges that cross over Trinity Lane north of downtown Nashville.  The project will have significant impacts to other area interstates, including Interstate 24 and Interstate 40 on the east side of Nashville.  

This weekend’s lane closures are as follows.  

• Friday, May 6, 8:00 p.m. – Monday, May 9, 5:00 a.m. I-65 northbound will be reduced to two lanes at Trinity Lane (MM 87) for bridge deck repair.

Motorists should expect lengthy delays on I-65 and surrounding interstates during the weekend. Drivers are encouraged to use Briley Parkway (SR 155) and Ellington Parkway (US 31E) as alternative routes as needed. TDOT’s Dynamic Message Signs will have alternate route information displayed in the affected areas. 

The repairs are part of a $4.3 million resurfacing project from the I-65 Trinity Lane bridge to the Cumberland River bridge and Spring Street bridge on I-65/I-24 in the downtown loop. The resurfacing work will be done primarily during the overnight hours on weeknights. The weekend closures are necessary for the bridge work due to the amount of concrete that must be removed and replaced.

There will be a necessary curing time for the new concrete to harden before the lanes are opened to traffic. During this time, there is a possibility that no workers will be present, but the lanes will still be closed. As soon as the concrete reaches the appropriate strength, the lanes will be opened to traffic.

This resurfacing and bridge repair project is separate from the $50 million I-65 widening project from Trinity Lane to Dickerson Pike, where new travel lanes were opened in February.

TDOT estimates the bridge work may require significant lane closures for as many as 13 more weekends. Work requiring high-impact lane closures will not take place during major area events, such as the CMA Music Festival, Tomato Art Festival, and Tennessee Titans home games. Advance warning will be issued when the lane closures are confirmed.
