Fifth Closure Confirmed for Fast Fix 8 Project in Downtown Nashville

NASHVILLE – Tennessee Department of Transportation contract crews will temporarily close a two-mile stretch of I-40 on the west side of downtown Nashville for bridge construction. The closure is scheduled as follows.

• Friday, October 2 at 8:00 p.m. through Monday, October 5 at 6:00 a.m.

I-40 will be closed from the I-40/I-65 split west of downtown to the I-40/I-65 split south of downtown.

Clinton Street will be closed from 11th Avenue to 16th Avenue.

During the closure, all traffic will be detoured to allow crews to remove and replace the I-40 eastbound bridge over Clinton Street. The work at this bridge location requires detailed coordination with CSX Railroad in order to complete the weekend work in the allotted time. As with the previous closures, both eastbound and westbound lanes are needed to allow workers, equipment, and materials access to the bridge site. Work will continue around the clock in order to have the new bridge ready by Monday morning rush hour.

What Drivers Need to Know

Plan Ahead – Know your alternate route before you leave for your destination.

Allow Extra Travel Time – Expect congestion in the downtown area, including interstates and local roads.

Avoid the Area – Seek a route away from downtown if your destination is not in the downtown area.

Downtown Access:

No on- or off-ramp access at Demonbreun Street, Broadway, Church Street, or Charlotte Avenue.

Ramp to I-40 West from 2nd and 4th Avenue will be closed.

Message boards will alert motorists to the closures and alternate routes. Detours are also available online.
