Taking Down Tobacco in Green County

2020 Taking Down Tobacco Day in Green County

Chuckey Doak Middle School participated in the National Taking Down Tobacco Day with approximately 450 students in attendance! They used 6 stations to educate students on the danger of tobacco and substance abuse. The stations included Pick Your Poison, E-cigarette Jeopardy, Rethink your Drink, Drug ID, Health Effects, and Smokeless Tobacco products.

Carter County Has Success with INDEPTH

Congrats to the three INDEPTH graduates from Carter County. These high school students have not used ENDS in the month they were enrolled in the program. Carter County has seven more students ready to graduate from the INDEPTH program.  INDEPTH is an Alternative to Teen Nicotine Suspension or Citation and it helps schools and communities address the teen vaping problem in a more supportive way.

Tobacco Prevention Bookmark Contest

Congrats to Church Hill Intermediate School students Susie Arnold and Aubrey Rogers on their winning entries in their school's tobacco prevention bookmark contest! Susie's first-place design will be produced and made available at her school, the Church Hill Public Library and the Little Library at the Church Hill Health Department. Peer to Peer Tobacco Prevention Education

Brothers, Pate and Luke led the Happy Vally Middle School students in a Tobacco Education program after school for seven weeks. Each week they spent thirty minutes teaching and helping middle school students understand the harmful effects of tobacco usage. Pate wrote a "guide sheet" to help family members and friends become tobacco-free. After they finished the program at Happy Vally Middle School the brothers stared the program at Hunter Middle School.

Event held at ETSU @ Kingsport with 65 participants. Educational materials utilized included: TIPS campaign, Quitline materials, Vaping, and smokeless cars.

Hancock County T4 Students Promoted the GASO

T4 students at Hancock County High School set up a booth to promote the GASO at Hancock County Middle High School. The T4 students handed out materials on how youth and young adults can access the new e-cigarette to quit program by texting "DITCHJUUL" to 88709 along with Quitline materials and incentives. A total of 340 students visited the booth. The T4 students also talked to 4th-grade students at Hancock County Elementary School about the dangers of vaping and tobacco use. The 4th-grade students were asked pre and post questions. There was a total of 76 4th grade students.

Peer to Peer Tobacco Prevention Education

Pate, Luke, and Lilly Anglin, teaching a seven-week curriculum at Rise-Up, an after-school program in Johnson City. Each week they have approximately 35 elementary students. In January, they will do the same program for the middle school.

National Kick Butts Day

Around 50 teens and 50 kids participated in the National Kick Butts Day Kick-Ball Tournament. A tournament lead by teens for teens and kids in their community to raise awareness of the dangers of tobacco. Overall, the event was a success!
