About This Page

The Tennessee Disaster Support Network (TDSN) is a web-based resource to assist Tennessee communities in meeting their needs before, during, and after a disaster. While the Tennessee Department of Health is working to ensure that all Tennessee citizens are prepared to respond to a wide range of emergencies, there is evidence that individuals with special needs may be disproportionately affected by a disaster. To close this gap, the TDSN was designed to specifically reach out to populations that have unique needs, as well as the agencies that serve them.

This page was developed through collaboration between the University of North Carolina's Center for Public Health Preparedness (UNC CPHP) and the Tennessee Department of Health (TDH). 

In 2011, the TDH formed a state-level disaster support committee with representation from the Tennessee Commission on Aging and Disability, the Disability Law and Advocacy Center of Tennessee, Vanderbilt University, Nashville Area Chapter of the American Red Cross and the United Way of Metropolitan Nashville.  This disaster support committee set forth the initial vision and mission of the TDSN online resource. 

The project was funded through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Preparedness and Emergency Response Learning Center (PERLC) network.
