Appraisal Office

The Right-of-Way Division Appraisal Office is responsible for the review and approval of all appraisals performed by TDOT's appraisal consultants. Appraisals prepared for the Department must conform to the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice and TDOT Appraisal Guidelines. In all acquisitions, both state and federally funded, the Department adheres to provisions of the Uniform Relocation Assistance and Real Property Acquisition Policies Act. Private consultants who are licensed by the Tennessee Real Estate Appraiser's Commission perform appraisals for TDOT. In addition to state licensure, appraisal consultants must meet TDOT Appraisal Panel requirements, which include right-of-way plans reading and interpretation, education and experience in appraising partial acquisitions.

The appraisal and appraisal review program is managed from the TDOT Central office, located in Nashville, and four regional offices, located in Knoxville, Chattanooga, Nashville and Jackson. Each office is staffed with certified appraisers who perform the appraisal review process. A chief appraiser oversees each office. For contact information, see the Regional Offices page in the Right-of-Way section of the TDOT website.
