SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS

  • PRIOR CONSULTATION REQUIRED.
  • Requested through consultation with state epidemiologists or ARLN program coordinators.

Specimen Requirements


Patient Preparation
  • None
Specimen Collection
  • E-swab from axilla/groin
Specimen Labeling
  • Specimen must be labeled with at least two unique patient identifiers and match accompanying Candida auris Lab Web Portal Requisition
Specimen Processing
  • None
Specimen Storage and Preservation
  • Swab should be stored at 4 - 25°C for no more than four (4) days from date of collection.
Specimen Transportation
  • Ship specimen at 4 - 25°C within 4 days of collection.
  • All infectious substance shipments must conform to U.S. Department of Transportation(DOT) Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR 49 C.F.R. Parts 171-180).
Specimen Acceptability and Rejection
  • Unsatisfactory specimens include but are not limited to:

-  Specimen is received greater than 96 hours after collection and                                       above 25°C

-  Specimen is incorrectly labelled 

-  Specimen leaked in transit

-  Patient received previous positive colonization or isolate within the last 90 days

-  Insufficient solution is present in collection tube for testing

  • Specimens received that do not meet the specimen requirements outlined in the Directory of Services or that deviate from the special instructions will not be acceptable for testing.
