Armed Security Guard
Registration must be renewed every two (2) years. The grace period for your license is 90 days. You are charged a late fee of $20 each month late within the grace period. If you do not renew within the grace period, you must reapply or reinstate your expired registration.

a. Head and Shoulder Photo
b. Firearms requalification with at least a 70% score on a commissioner-approved silhouette target course.
c. Four (4) hours of refresher training.
d. If working at a location that has on-premises consumption of alcohol, complete refresher training in de-escalation, safe restraint, first aid, and CPR within one (1) year of renewal to maintain these classifications.
e. If working at a public, public charter, private, or church-related school, you must complete active shooter refresher training prior to your renewal.

Unarmed Security Guard
Registration must be renewed every two (2) years. The grace period for your license is 90 days. You are charged a late fee of $20 each month late within the grace period. If you do not renew within the grace period, you must reapply or reinstate your expired registration.

Certified Security Guard Trainer
Registration must be renewed every two (2) years. The grace period for your license is 90 days. You are charged a late fee of $20 each month late within the grace period. If you do not renew within the grace period, you must reapply or reinstate your expired registration.

Contract Security Company
Registration must be renewed every two (2) years. The grace period for your license is 90 days. You are charged a late fee of $100 each month late within the grace period. If you do not renew within the grace period, you must reapply or reinstate your expired registration.

Proprietary Security Organization
Proprietary Security Organization registrations that do not have consumption of alcohol on premises (PSO) do not expire. However, you must maintain a Certificate of Insurance that meets the requirements set in T.C.A. 62-35-114.
Proprietary Security Organization registrations that do have consumption of alcohol on premises (PSO-A) must renew within three (3) months of expiration. You must maintain a Certificate of Insurance that meets the requirements set in T.C.A. 62-35-114 and have an active and current ABC license and Beer Board permit. The renewal fee is $100. A $20 late fee will be assessed for each month that elapses during the late renewal period.
If you do not renew your license or registration within the grace period, you must reinstate it through your CORE account. You will be required to provide all documentation required for an initial license or registration, including training and completion of a background check through IdentoGO.
Duplicate requests completed online through your CORE account. The fee for a duplicate card is $25.
All license holders may change their address online through their CORE account.
For a name change, Guards and Certified Trainers should email the Program at private.protective@tn.gov. Include a legal document showing the change in name. Once updated, you will need to order a duplicate license through your CORE account. The fee associated with this is $25.
Contract Security Companies registered as a sole proprietorship will submit a letter notifying the program of their name change. Entities will need to update their filing with the Secretary of State and submit a letter with the updated filing to the program. If the name change results in a new Control Number (Mode of Operation Change), a new application will need to be submitted.
Training classifications, such as first aid or CPR, can be added by submitting an application through CORE. The fee to add a classification is $25 per application, regardless of whether the applicant is adding one or multiple classifications.
Trainers are required to provide evidence of the qualifications they are requesting to add.
Qualifying Agent Change
Email the Program at private.protective@tn.gov, notifying them of the change. A licensing specialist will send the licensee a Change of QA application. The application will be completed and submitted along with an electronic fingerprinting receipt and a Proof of Experience letter.
Ownership Change
Email the Program at private.protective@tn.gov, notifying them of the change. If the change in ownership results in the change of a qualifying agent, a new application will need to be submitted.
