Private Protective ServicesA contract security company is a person or company that engages in the business of providing a security guard and patrol service on a contractual basis for another person.
If the company is a partnership, each partner must qualify. If the person is a corporation or an LLC, an agent of the corporation must qualify.
Requirements
Licensing Requirements
1. Owner or Qualifying Agent must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.
2. Be a citizen of the United States or a resident alien.
3. Must have and maintain a certificate of insurance that meets the requirements of Tenn. Code Annotated 62-35-114.
4. Must have an active Tennessee Secretary of State filing for the company, with the company name and address matching what is on file. If you are a sole proprietorship, you do not need to meet this requirement.

6. You must meet the experience or examination requirements:
Experience: Possess at least three (3) years of supervisory experience with a contract security company, proprietary security organization, or three (3) years of supervisory experience satisfactory to the Commissioner with any federal, United States military, state, county, or municipal law enforcement agency.
Examination: Pass an examination designed to measure knowledge and competence in the contract security company business.

Complete the “Initial Contract Security Company (CSC) Application” online at core.tn.gov. The fee for an initial application is $425 (49 guards or fewer) or $725 (50 guards or more).
