Certified Security Guard Trainer
Private Protective ServicesA certified trainer is an individual certified by the Commissioner as personally qualified to administer required training for security guards.

Requirements
Licensing Requirements
1. Be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.
2. Be personally qualified to conduct the required training of security guards.
3. Have at least one (1) year of supervisory experience with a contract security company, proprietary security organization, or any federal, United States military, state, county, or municipal law enforcement agency.
Application & Fees
Complete the “Initial Certified Security Guard Trainer Application” online at core.tn.gov. The fee for an initial application is $160.
Assistant Trainer
A certified trainer may appoint an assistant trainer to assist in the implementation of their training program. To appoint an assistant trainer, certified trainers must contact the program at private.protective@tn.gov and provide documentation confirming that the assistant trainer meets all requirements.
Assistant trainers must be at least 21 years of age and have at least one (1) year of experience with any federal, United States military, state, county, or municipal law enforcement agency, contract security company, or proprietary security organization.
Assistant trainers must be under the direct supervision of the certified trainer by whom they were appointed and shall not provide any training that the certified trainer is not certified to provide, unless separately approved by the Commissioner to provide said training. Certified trainers are responsible for their assigned assistant trainers.
