Resurfacing and Pavement Repair Planned for Williamson County

Nashville, Tenn. – The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) will conduct closures on Interstate 840 and Interstate 65 in Williamson County for maintenance work and to mark the beginning of several resurfacing projects.

Beginning Sunday, August 9, crews with Volunteer Paving will conduct nightly lane closures on I-840 from near State Route 6 (US-31) to east of Arno Road for a new resurfacing project anticipated for completion by December 2026.

Also beginning Sunday, August 9, crews with Vulcan Construction will conduct nightly lane closures on I-65 from near I-840 to Liberty Pike for a new resurfacing project anticipated for completion by December 2026.

These nightly closures will take place from 8 p.m. – 5 a.m. You can find more information about each resurfacing project here:  TDOT’s 3-Year Pavement Plan. Drivers are asked to use caution in these areas, especially over the next two weeks, due to the Williamson County Fair.

To help ensure safe and efficient travel during the Williamson County Fair, TDOT will have a dedicated HELP Truck patrolling the corridor between Interstate 840 and Concord Road throughout the event. Message boards will be positioned at the northbound and southbound exits to Goose Creek Bypass to alert motorists to potential traffic queues. Traffic cones will also be placed as needed to help guide traffic and enhance safety in the area.

The following ramp closures are also anticipated for the week of August 9:

·         On Wednesday, August 12, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., crews will close the I-65 northbound on-ramp from Exit 67 (McEwen Drive) for milling and paving operations.

·         On Thursday, August 13, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., crews will close the I-65 northbound on-ramp from Exit 69 (Moores Lane) for milling and paving operations.

Detour signage will be in place for both ramp closures.

All work is weather-dependent. As always, drivers are reminded to allow additional time, slow down, and move over when traveling through a work zone. The Move Over Law was passed in 2006. The penalty for violating the law in Tennessee includes the possibility of up to 30 days in jail and a maximum fine of $500.
