Motorists to Expect Delays as State Route 171 Resurfacing Project Begins

Nashville, Tenn. – The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) will conduct flagging operations on State Route 171 in Davidson County.

Beginning Monday, August 24, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.,  crews with Vulcan Construction will begin flagging operations on State Route 171 (Hobson Pike) from near Stones River Bridge to the Wilson County line for resurfacing operations. This project is anticipated to be completed by the end of September 2026.

With an immediate need to improve the roadway, crews will first apply a chip seal treatment, followed by sweeping to remove any loose rock. While the chip seal may temporarily look and feel different from a typical paved surface, this proven treatment provides an efficient way to quickly seal and protect the roadway while preparing it for the final surface. Once the chip seal has settled, crews will return to apply the final asphalt overlay. This phased approach allows crews to address the roadway’s immediate needs efficiently while minimizing the time required for construction.

This resurfacing project is programmed in TDOT’s 3-Year Pavement Plan.

All work is weather-dependent. As always, drivers are reminded to allow additional time, slow down, and move over when traveling through a work zone. The Move Over Law was passed in 2006. The penalty for violating the law in Tennessee includes the possibility of up to 30 days in jail and a maximum fine of $500.
