UPDATED: Continued Intersection Construction to Close State Route 99 at Veterans Parkway

Nashville, Tenn. - The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) will begin its second phase closure of Veterans Parkway in Rutherford County.

Starting Wednesday, July 29, through Wednesday, August 5, crews will close the north side of Veterans Parkway in both directions from the intersection at State Route 99 (New Salem Highway) to Old Salem Road.

Motorists traveling southbound on Veterans Parkway will detour east at Old Salem Road to SR 99/New Salem Highway, and travel west to re-enter Veterans Parkway. A temporary signal will be installed at the intersection of SR 99/New Salem Highway and Old Salem Road during this work.

Message boards notifying the motoring public of the Veterans Parkway detour were placed in advance on:

·         Shelbyville Highway/State Route 231: north and south of Veterans Parkway

·         Veterans Parkway: north and south of Highway 99

·         New Salem Highway/SR 99: east and west of the detoured intersection

These closures are necessary to raise and rebuild the intersection of New Salem Highway at Veterans Parkway as part of Phase 3 of TDOT’s New Salem Highway (SR 99) Widening Project. Crews recently completed the south side (Phase 1) of Veterans Parkway. Once the north side (Phase 2) is complete and the intersection is rebuilt, contractors will have completed a major milestone in this project.

Phase 3 of TDOT’s New Salem Highway (SR 99) Widening Project began in February 2025 and covers approximately 2.4 miles from west of Veterans Parkway to Cason Lane. The project transforms this stretch of SR 99 from a two-lane highway to a five-lane highway. Construction is estimated to be completed by December 2027.

All work is weather-dependent. As always, drivers are reminded to allow additional time, slow down, and move over when traveling through a work zone. The Move Over Law was passed in 2006. The penalty for violating the law in Tennessee includes the possibility of up to 30 days in jail and a maximum fine of $500.
