Cordell Hull Bridge to Close for Inspection
Nashville, Tenn. - The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) will close the Cordell Hull Bridge in Smith County starting next week for an interim inspection.
Beginning Monday, June 15, through Thursday, June 18, the bridge will be closed daily from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. for crews to conduct an interim (cursory) inspection. The purpose of the interim inspection is to monitor any changes in condition on certain major bridge components.
Drivers will use State Route 24 / US 70N and SR 25 / Carthage Bypass to navigate the closure.

All work is weather-dependent. As always, drivers are reminded to allow additional time, move over, and slow down when traveling through events that result in lane closures. The Move Over Law was passed in 2006. The penalty for violating the law in Tennessee carries the possibility of up to 30 days in jail and a maximum fine of up to $500.
Motorists can alert TDOT to potholes by calling the TDOTFIX Hotline at 833-TDOTFIX or using this online form: TDOT Maintenance Request. The TDOT SmartWay Map (https://smartway.tn.gov) provides the latest construction activity traffic updates. Travelers can also call 511 for travel information.
