Nashville, Tenn. – The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) will conduct lane closures on a segment of Interstate 40 that touches Cheatham, Dickson, and Williamson Counties.

Beginning Saturday, March 14, through Friday, March 20, crews with Phillips will intermittently close lanes in both directions on I-40 from mile marker 179 (just past Spencer Creek Road) to near mile marker 188 (SR 249/Kingston Springs/Ashland City exit). Motorists can expect lane closures on weekends from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., and weekdays from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. (I-40 westbound) and 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. (I-40 eastbound).

These lane closures are necessary for crews to cut and haul vegetative storm debris left behind by Winter Storm Fern.

Per FEMA’s disaster declaration following the winter weather event, contracted crews are clearing state routes and interstates of vegetative storm debris in 19 Tennessee counties approved for full FEMA Public Assistance (PA). These crews have been working sunup to sundown, seven days a week, since February 14. In that time, more than 25,889 hazardous hanging limbs and trees have been removed, and more than 171,132 cubic yards of debris have been cleared in Region 3.* Once the 19 counties identified for full FEMA PA are addressed, TDOT will cut and clear debris from state routes and interstates in the remaining counties.

All work is weather-dependent. As always, drivers are reminded to allow additional time, slow down, and move over when traveling through a work zone. The Move Over Law was passed in 2006. The penalty for violating the law in Tennessee includes the possibility of up to 30 days in jail and a maximum fine of $500.

Motorists can report potholes to TDOT by calling the TDOTFIX Hotline at 833-TDOTFIX or using this online form: TDOT Maintenance Request. The TDOT SmartWay Map (https://smartway.tn.gov) provides the latest traffic updates on construction activity. Travelers can also call 511 for travel information.

*Debris removal on non-controlled-access routes in Davidson County (Ellington Parkway, Briley Parkway, Vietnam Veterans Parkway, etc) is being handled by Metro Nashville.
