Resurfacing Operations to Prompt Lane Closures on Interstate 840

Nashville, Tenn. – The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) will conduct lane closures on Interstate 840 in Williamson County.

Beginning Saturday, October 31, through Sunday, November 1, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., crews with Volunteer Paving will conduct lane closures on I-840 from near State Route 6 (US-31) to east of Arno Road for resurfacing operations.

Daytime lane closures are necessary because the pavement mixture used for paving operations cannot be placed at the low nighttime temperatures currently being experienced. Daytime work allows paving operations to proceed under suitable temperature conditions and meet material performance requirements.

Beginning Friday, November 6, through Sunday, November 8, crews with Capital City will conduct lane closures on I-840 in both directions from near Exit 28 (Columbia Pike) to Exit 37 (Arno Road) for bridge joint replacements. These closures will take place from 8 p.m. to noon the following day.

This work is associated with TDOT’S I-840 resurfacing project from near State Route 6 (US-31) to east of Arno Road, which is anticipated for completion by the end of November 2026. You can find more information on this resurfacing project here.  TDOT’s 3-Year Pavement Plan.

All work is weather-dependent. As always, drivers are reminded to allow additional time, slow down, and move over when traveling through a work zone. The Move Over Law was passed in 2006. The penalty for violating the law in Tennessee includes the possibility of up to 30 days in jail and a maximum fine of $500.

Motorists can report potholes to TDOT by calling the TDOTFIX Hotline at 833-TDOTFIX or using this online form: TDOT Maintenance Request. The TDOT SmartWay Map (https://smartway.tn.gov) provides the latest traffic updates on construction activity. Travelers can also call 511 for travel information.
