TDOT has been awarded a $71.1 million federal transportation grant to fund the widening of Lamar Avenue (US 78/SR 4) in Memphis. Combined with funds dedicated through the 2017 IMPROVE Act, the grant will help completely pay for the remaining phases of the three Lamar Avenue projects.

In an effort to expedite the reconstruction of Interstate 440 and mitigate severe traffic impacts caused by construction, TDOT will explore the option of closing segments of the roadway. This construction option could result in substantial completion of the project in less than one year. Traditional construction methods, which would include significant lane closures along the entire facility, are estimated to take 36 months to complete.

NASHVILLE – Motorists won’t be delayed by road construction as they travel Tennessee’s highways this Memorial Day weekend. The Tennessee Department of Transportation will suspend all construction-related lane closures on interstates and state routes beginning at 12:00 noon on Friday, May 25 through 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 29. This will provide maximum roadway capacity for motorists expected to travel in the state this Memorial Day weekend.
