Recreational Operator

A recreational operator is someone who flies a drone strictly for recreation. If a drone is used for any business or financial gain, the operator does not qualify as a recreational user, and must acquire a Part 107 Certificate.

Commercial Operator

An individual or company utilizing drone technology for compensation or business purposes is classified as a commercial operator. This includes any use of a drone for advertising, promotion, or demonstration of a product or service.
